Eisenhower’s Cadillac was being transported from the Sinsheim Technik Museum, where it’s been sitting for the last 6 years, to it’s owners in Offenburg.
Whike travelling South on the A5, 2 cars driving next to the Cadillac crashed, pushing one of the cars into the trailer, which detached from it’s truck and fell on it’s side.
The Cadillac was still attached to the trailer, but suffered severe side damage.

Ouch! But it does show how important proper securing of the vehicle on the trailer is.
That bumper looks surprisingly strong, doesn’t seem to have deformed!

I’m sure it can be fixed. I would guess GM may help with a car with that history.

I’ve been to the Sinsheim Technkik Museum a couple of times many years ago. I remember a Ferrari with its low hanging exhaust ground through and having worn out tires. I think there was an aircraft engine-powered land speed record car there as well and a DeLorean (big deal, right?). More than 25 years ago.
The greatest museum, in my opinion, is the Deutsches Museum in München.
I question whether the Eisenhower Cadillac was being transported in adequate safety. High center of gravity and all. But should be able to be restored, I should think, if someone wants to pay the money.
Thanks for sharing the story.

More importantly, they have planes:

No, it’s two dumb yokels driving alongside the trailer that caused it, if you read what you had written...

Indeed. And two Concordes? I was in Germany when I was in the U.S. Army, and I drove past Sinsheim in an Army convoy and saw the aircraft and later, made a trip to visit the museum itself.
I wonder how stripped-out those Concordes are on the inside.

I think he meant it could have been a distracted driver trying to get a closer look at it, or take pics on their phone.
Probably not though mostly people wouldn’t be that interested in some old black car.

I go there every now and then, it’s an hour away from here. Munich is really impressive, bit it’s on another scale.
The car was transported by the owners, so the museum is not to blame in this case. I think the same is true for rough cars being shown.
I have no doubt it’s gonna be restored. GM could also use it as cheap-ish promotion

True, but they wouldn’t have been distracted if the trailer had been covered.
I know, victim blaming and all, but people drive terribly when around “special” cars. I had several near-crashes in the Chevy because of that

That
It only takes one, I had several close calls because of people checking my car out instead of focusing on the road

They have a Concorde and a Tu-144 , the Soviet counterpart, which even in its heyday, was not a pleasant plane to fly (which wasn’t that unusual for Aeroflot, TBH).

The one on the right is not a Concorde, it’s a Tu-144. And if you look at the back of the Concorde, you can see a spiral staircase leading up. Visitors can go up into the cabin, all the way to the cockpit (I believe they can do the same with the other passenger planes as well).

Thank you for that correction. I don’t think it’s very likely that I will ever set foot on Europe again, but if I do, you can be sure I’ll visit Sinsheim again. And the Deutsches Museum.

It is an old black American car in Germany. It probably attracted quite a few rubberneckers.

Speyer, the sister museum to Sinsheim, is also pretty good.
The Caddy will be a fairly easy restoration.

A Tupolev and a Concorde. They had the copy for a while, and added the original about 10 years ago, I was there for it’s last landing, such a magnificient (and loud) machine

I’ve come across this pic of a VFW 614 at Technik Museum Speyer. The slide looks really intimidating:

One is indeed a Concorde the other is the Russian “Concorde” Tu-144. And yes, some of their exhibits look like they are a little past their prime.

The Air France Concorde is stripped of virtually everything valuable. There are some seating left in places and boxed in by heavily scratched perspex.

Well if you don’t want to set foot in Europe. You could visit one of many car museums in the U.K. also if you like trains and steam trains, there are several dotted about the place.

You’d be surprised how many old American cars are on German’s roads.
I think I’ve seen more on German’s roads than I have on roads in other European countries put together.

To be clear: it’s not that I would mind returning to Europe at all. I have dreams at night from time to time wherein I return to places I knew in Germany when I was stationed there. I wouldn’t mind going back at all.
And to be clear: it wouldn’t have occurred to me not to think of U.K. and Europe as the same thing. Colour me confused if you must... I’d love to buy you some chips for lunch sometime.
My favorite museum ever was the Deutsches Museum. I took a trip to Stuttgart once to see the BMW museum, and it was fun, but not the end-all.
My family and I are still enjoying the chocolate, BTW... Thanks again.

Lol. I know mate. Just pulling your chain.
There are many here and elsewhere that don’t class Britain as Europe for whatever reason.
We’ve got some great museums.
In Yorkshire there is a great WWII museum called Eden Camp, Viking museum in York and an awesome train museum.
No worries. Glad the chocolate is going down well.
